We Honor Veterans

Honor. Courage. Commitment.

These values define all Veterans and military who serve our country. They are enduring qualities core to who service members are, long after their active service has ended.

Each year, Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care (KCH)  has the distinct honor of providing the highest-quality end-of-life care and special recognitions to approximately 500 Veterans, and their families.

Veterans have unique needs at the end of life, extending beyond the physical to include mental, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. KCH places a priority on meeting these needs for Veterans in our community as they take one of life’s most important journeys. We also value providing them with the well-earned recognition and gratitude they deserve.

We Honor Veterans Level Four Partner

Since 2013, KCH has been a proud partner in the national We Honor Veterans program, achieving a Level Four Partnership. As one of the most active hospices in the state for honoring Veterans, our goal is to improve quality of care for all Veterans at the end of their lives.

KCH’s We Honor Veterans program helps Veteran patients receive absolution for trauma they may have experienced during their service. The program also gives permission to “stand down” from their service on earth and achieve the peace they need to say their final goodbye.

Honoring a Veteran’s service can also be very meaningful to loved ones, who are preparing to say goodbye.

United States Veterans have done everything asked of them in their mission to serve our country. At Kansas City Hospice, we believe it is never too late to give them a hero’s welcome home.

Partnership highlights

  • The Kansas City Hospice - We Honor Veterans Level Four Partnership reflects our commitment to providing Veteran-centric hospice and palliative care according to the Veterans Standards of Practice, and to reducing health disparities for this vulnerable group.
  • Empower hospice and other healthcare providers across America to meet the unique needs of Veterans and their families. Our robust program has positioned KCH staff as leaders in the community; many are often invited to provide training, community education, and consultations.
  • Connect Veterans with community support to meet their needs. We help with VA benefits enrollment and access, give recognition for service with special ceremonies, and provide quilts handmade by volunteers upon intake.
  • Recognize Vietnam Veterans. We help Veterans or their spouses receive a commemorative lapel pin, as a lasting memento of the Nation’s thanks.
