CEU Opportunities

Professional development opportunities for staff

At Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care, we pride ourselves on our ability to offer internal educational opportunities to our staff.

Annually, we offer over 50 hours of educational opportunities for nurses, social workers and other interdisciplinary staff. The format for these programs include virtual and in-person educational sessions as well as webinars from organizations such as Hospice Fundamentals, MJHS Institute for Innovation in Palliative Care, Missouri Hospice and Palliative Care Association, Weber Elder Law Office and The Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services.

Proud to be a Kansas State Board of Nursing approved provider of continuing education

We ensure our Social Workers receive the mandatory continuing education requirements needed to maintain their licensure in the states of Kansas and Missouri. This education includes three hours of ethics training; six hours of diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders training; two hours of suicide assessment, referral, treatment, and management training; and three hours devoted exclusively to explicit or implicit bias, diversity, inclusion, and/or cultural awareness/competency/humility.

Educational sessions and webinars are taught by many different disciplines and individuals such as APRN’s, RN’s, Physician’s, LCSW’s, LMSW’s, PhD’s, Dieticians and Grief Support Specialists.

Additional opportunities

We also offer all of our staff - clinical and non-clinical - the opportunity to attend End of LIfe Nursing Education Consortium ELNEC) classes three times a year. ELNEC is a national end-of-life educational initiative whose mission is to improve palliative care both within the United States and internationally. ELNEC consists of eight modules: Palliative Nursing Care, Pain Mgmt, Symptom Mgmt, Ethical Issues, Culture and Spiritual Considerations, Communication, Loss, Grief and Bereavement, and Final Hours.

We also publish a bi-monthly newsletter “In the Know” that provides educational information to our staff. This newsletter provides self-care techniques and suggestions, a “Quality” corner, a pharmacy section, a Hospice Fundamentals section and other relevant information that pertains to caring for Hospice patients and their families.
