Sustaining Angels recurring gift program

A compassionate way for you to make a lasting impact on the lives of patients and families served by our organization. As a monthly (or quarterly) donor, you'll join a community of supporters committed to our mission of bringing expert care, peace of mind, comfort, guidance, and hope to people who are affected by serious illness or by grief.

As a Sustaining Angel, your recurring gift will consistently provide vital resources that enable our organization to deliver expert medical care, emotional support, and practical assistance.

Here's how your reliable monthly support can make a difference:

  • Empowering Compassionate Care: Help us maintain a team of skilled healthcare professionals, including nurses, social workers, chaplains, and volunteers, who are dedicated to providing care to patients and their families.
  • Enhancing Comfort and Quality of Life: Your contributions contribute to essential services such as pain management, therapy programs, spiritual support, and bereavement counseling, helping patients and families navigate emotional and physical challenges.
  • Expanding Access to Care: With your support, we can extend our services to more individuals in need, regardless of their ability to pay.

Our angels consistently demonstrate their dedication to our mission. A few benefits of the sustaining program are:

Your gift at work

A gift of $10 per month, or $120 per year, can help offset the day-to-day needs of families who are struggling financially as they care for their loved ones, often as a result of their loved one’s illness.

A gift of $25 per month, or $300 per year, can help purchase specialty-sized medical equipment for our tiniest patients. The Kansas City Hospice Carousel pediatric team is the only hospice team in the region dedicated to the unique needs of children and their families.

A gift of $50 per month, or $600 per year, can provide grief counseling at Solace House for one family grieving the sudden death of a loved one.

Impact Stories

Anita’s Story

Anita Shearman’s story of emerging from tragedy with love and support exemplifies this melded meaning. Kansas City Hospice offered Anita grief counseling and options for emotional support after her husband’s death at the Kansas City Hospice HouseTM. “Months after Dan’s death Kansas City Hospice was still trying to help me,” she explains. “I knew I had to help them in some way.”

Anita decided to honor her husband’s memory by becoming a Sustaining Angel. “I chose $57 per month because my husband was 57 years old when he passed. Kansas City Hospice was a bright light for me and my family during a dark and difficult time in our lives. I want to help keep that bright light shining for as many people as I can.”

Alicia’s Story

For Sustaining Angel Alicia Gault, the memories she shared throughout her life with her parents, and a very special aunt and uncle, inspired her. Alicia shares, “Giving back keeps me close to my family. It helps the community that was so special to me, and a mission that is very important.”

Alicia grew up in the Raytown area of Kansas City and remembers special times there. Her family moved away when she was nine, but they visited often, staying with her aunt and uncle.

Alicia became a Sustaining Angel to honor her parents, aunt, and uncle. Alicia’s support shows you don’t have to live in Kansas City to be a Sustaining Angel. It is about honoring a loved one and sustaining the KCH mission through an ongoing gift, in any amount.

Jim Siress’ Story

Ruth was at the Kansas City Hospice House for six days before she died. And for her husband Jim, it was all of the little things the care team did that made a big impact. For instance, Ruth enjoyed looking presentable and one day he walked in while the team was bathing her and telling Ruth how beautiful her skin was. To Jim, they weren’t just bathing her, they were loving her. 

After Ruth died, Jim received grief support services through Kansas City Hospice. He is now doing okay and knows that the grief will never go away but is grateful for the support and knows it helped change his attitude.

As to why he became a Sustaining Angel, Jim shares, “Giving a little at a time is a constant reminder to me of my wife and the exceptional care she received at Kansas City Hospice.”
