Volunteers 2019

2019 was an extraordinary year for the many dedicated volunteers of Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care. They gave 20,800 hours to Kansas City Hospice valued at $498,368.

April 19 begins National Volunteer Week. Thank you to all of the volunteers who give their hearts, minds and hands to helping Kansas City Hospice fulfill its mission.

January

  • Volunteers hosted a New Year’s Eve champagne toast, and New Year’s Day meal at Kansas City Hospice House
  • 174 volunteer visits were made to home care patients
  • 8 new hospice volunteers joined our team!

February

  • 2 volunteers were honored at the annual Heart of Hospice Awards
  • 8 high school volunteers spent service week at our hospice houses, and hosted a festive Luau at NorthCare Hospice House
  • A yoga instructor volunteered their time for Solace House adult and youth participants

March

  • 60 volunteers walked in the NorthCare entry in the Snake Saturday Parade
  • Kansas City Hospice House patients, families and staff were supported by 45 volunteers
  • 4 volunteers captured memories for families through the gift of Lasting Conversations

April

  • Annual Volunteer Appreciation event was held at Studio Dan Meiners
  • The Kansas City Hospice and Foundation Boards welcomed 6 new members
  • 3 Families were served by our Pet Peace of Mind Program
  • 10 new hospice volunteers joined our team!

May

  • 4 musicians performed guitar, harp, violin and vocals for patients and families at both hospice houses and at long term care facilities
  • 14 volunteers provided administrative support across the organization
  • Circle of Lights was a success with the help of 28 volunteers

June

  • Camp Erin was staffed by 34 cabin buddies, facilitators, pet therapy teams, and registration volunteers
  • NorthCare Hospice House has patients, families and staff were supported by 15 volunteers
  • 9 volunteers made 12 deliveries from local bakeries to the Kansas City Hospice House

July

  • 6 Pet Therapy teams brought joy to patients and families at the hospice houses and long term care facilities
  • 4 massage therapists gave the gift of healing touch
  • Volunteers provided deserts for a private concert for patients and families at the Kansas City Hospice House

August

  • Solace House welcomed 31 volunteer facilitators, greeters and pet therapists for the Fall cycle
  • 28 meals were delivered to patients by volunteers at the Kansas City Hospice House
  • Staff and volunteers came together at Head for the Cure, a long time event benefiting Solace House, which got rained out for the first time this year
  • Solace House screened Patient: A Surgeon’s Journey, which was well attended by facilitators

September

  • Camp Carousel was supported by volunteer big buddies, facilitators, pet therapists, and art therapy assistants
  • A volunteer presented The Joys of Volunteering to Visit People with Alzehimer’s
  • 4 Development volunteers gave 600 hours contributing to the success of Sunday Night Live

October

  • Northland volunteers gathered for Coffee, Cookies and Conversation
  • 6 volunteers and Solace House ambassadors manned booths at Oktoberfest
  • Solace House Volunteers decorated a holiday tree for Holiday Mart event

November

  • 4 Volunteers were honored at the Shepherd’s Center 70 over 70 awards
  • Work began on the Holiday Adoption program, which provided holiday gifts for 55 families and individuals
  • The Baking Brigade provided cakes for Veteran’s Day Ceremonies across the metro

December

  • Top Drawer celebrated it’s 17th Year!
  • Volunteers decorated for the holidays, and hosted Santa visits at both hospice houses
  • Worldwide Candle Lighting for Children was hosted by volunteers at Kansas City Hospice House
  • 12 volunteers stuffed stockings for long term care facility patients
