Kansas City Palliative Medicine is located within the Kansas City Hospice House™ and is the Midwest’s only outpatient clinic dedicated to palliative medicine and hospice. Our staff members are all specialists in hospice and palliative medicine who serve all of our patients and make house calls whenever needed. Our staff includes palliative physicians, advance practice nurses/nurse practitioners and physicians currently in our fellowship program. Along with caring for patients, our physicians train other physicians through our Palliative Medicine Fellowship and serve as faculty at local medical schools. They frequently speak at local and national conferences are nationally recognized for their expertise and excellence.

Harris

Pamela Harris, MD, FAAPMR, FAAHPM, Associate Medical Director

 

Dr. Pamela Harris joined Kansas City Hospice as an associate medical director in 2006. She graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine where she specialized in physical medicine and rehabilitation.She is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, hospice and palliative medicine, and spinal cord injury medicine. She also is an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church.

David Dugan, MD, Associate Medical Director

 

Dr. David Dugan is an associate medical director who joined us in 2015. He received his undergraduate degree in biology from Emporia State Univesity and his M.D. from the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Dugan completed an anesthesia residency at the University of Kansas –Wichita Program. He has practiced as an attending physician in anesthesia and served as a staff anesthesiologist. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Tim Link, MD, Associate Medical Director

 

Dr. Tim Link joined us as an Associate Medical Director in 2007. He graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine and completed a Family and Community Medicine residency there. He is board certified in Family Medicine as well as Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Ferrel

Maria Ferrell, MSN, APRN, ACHPN, NP-C, Nurse Practitioner

 

Maria Ferrell has specialized in caring for patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families since 2000, and has been with Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care since 2005. A graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia with a master’s degree in nursing, she is board-certified as a clinical nurse specialist in adult health. She is also board-certified as an advanced practice registered nurse in palliative care, and as an adult-gerontology nurse practitioner . She received the American Academy of Hospice & Palliative Medicine Mentorship Award in 2007-2008. Maria has a special interest in outpatient palliative care.

Kaitlyn Balough, MSN, APRN, ANP-BC, Nurse Practitioner

 

Kaitlyn Balough is a Nurse Practitioner who began working at Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care in 2013. She graduated from the University of Kansas School of Nursing in the Adult-Gerontological Nurse Practitioner program and obtained her master’s degree.  She is a board-certified nurse practitioner in adult health by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

 

 

Elizabeth (Beth) Kay MSN, APRN, GNP-BC, Nurse Practitioner

 

Elizabeth Kay joined the practice in 2016 as a Nurse Practitioner, with over 13 years experience in critical care nursing. She obtained her Masters degree at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell and is board certified as a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She has a special interest in geriatrics and end-of-life care.

Denise Sanders, MSN, APRN, BC, ACHPN, Nurse Practitioner

 

Denise Sanders is a Nurse Practitioner with 19 years of nursing experience. She obtained her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri and her Master’s of Science in Nursing at University of Missouri-Kansas City. She worked as an RN for five years in cardiac telemetry units and critical care units, primarily at North Kansas City Hospital. She served as the founding nurse practitioner for NKCH’s Coagulation Clinic before moving to the Truman Medical Center’s Palliative Care team in 2006. In 2010, she joined NorthCare Hospice as the nurse practitioner for the home hospice program and she is now part of the Kansas City Hospice family. Denise holds certifications from ANCC as an adult nurse practitioner and HPNA as an Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse. In 2014, she was a March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Finalist in the Advanced Practice Nurse category.

April Kimball, MSN, FNP-BC, ACHPN, Nurse Practitioner

 

April Kimball is a Nurse Practitioner who has worked in the field of hospice and palliative care since 2008. She obtained her master’s degree in nursing from Graceland University. She is a board-certified family nurse practitioner and board-certified as an advanced practice registered nurse in hospice and palliative care.

Deborah Coon, APRN, Nurse Practitioner

 

Deb Coon is board certified as a family nurse practitioner who joined Kansas City Hospice in July of 2016. She graduated from the University of Kansas in 2009. Her areas of practice as a nurse practitioner have included primary care, urgent care and geriatrics. In her previous background as a nurse, she worked in intensive care, cardiology and hospice. Her special interest is pain management and supporting the patient and family on the physical, emotional and spiritual levels.
