The Giving Season

by Caryn Hohnholt, Vice President of Development for Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care

Congratulations on making it through our first big snowstorm of the year, hopefully with plenty of hot chocolate and time together with loved ones. After the excitement of Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, allowing us the opportunity to focus on supporting our friends and neighbors throughout the community.

I am thankful every day for my role as Vice President of Development at Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care. I serve a unique profession which allows me to see the very best of the world around me and work with amazing people who are ready to make good things happen for their friends and neighbors. The unique perspective of my role also allows me to see the grateful appreciation of patients, families, and personal caregivers who, because of your support, are able to spending meaningful time with their loved one in their final days and receive support in their grief.

You, our donors and supporters, are incredible people. Many of you give because you or a loved one has been personally touched by our care or services. Often, gifts to Kansas City Hospice are a beautiful way to remember the compassionate spirit of those who are no longer with us, “paying it forward” to other families in grateful appreciation of your or your loved one’s care. Many others give because you understand the intrinsic value of compassionate care for all, regardless of age and regardless of financial resources. Your donations are meaningful.

Families depend on us, and we depend on YOU.

Which is why I’m grateful to announce that all gifts given today, #GivingTuesday 2018, will be matched dollar for dollar in loving memory of Julian Ray from Charlie and Dottie Ray, up to a total of $40,000! The Ray family has offered a challenge to our donors beginning now and extending through our year-end giving campaign. Essentially, the impact of your donation – whatever size – will be doubled, until we have raised at least $40,000. Even better, Facebook and PayPal will be matching all #GivingTuesday gifts beginning today at 7am until the money runs out. This, combined with the Ray family challenge, means your gift could be TRIPLED! What an amazingly generous way to ensure meaningful care to families throughout our Kansas City community.

Would you also consider sharing our Facebook fundraiser with your Facebook friends and family or creating a personal Facebook fundraiser designating Kansas City Hospice as the recipient? In this way, you can extend the giving and help raise even more for families cared for by Kansas City Hospice!

See how easy it is to create a giving campaign with proceeds designated to Kansas City Hospice. Thank you for being the generous, compassionate, giving person that you are, and for supporting us not just today, but throughout the year.

Over the next few weeks, we will explore the many ways your gifts impact the lives of individuals and families right here in Kansas City. Please know how very grateful we are for your support and thank you for joining with us as we kick off our final giving campaign of 2018![/ebs_frame]
