Colleen Millett Pelz, Co-Founder of Solace House

Colleen Millett Pelz attended Panhandle State University in Oklahoma, and then continued her chosen career path at Northwest Texas school of Nursing. She practiced as a registered nurse, specializing in pediatrics for 20 years. In 1995 her husband Robert was killed in a work related accident which was the impetus for her co-founding Solace House along with Janie M Ewell. Colleen was the Community and Outreach Director of Solace House for the first six years. She remained a Solace House board member until getting married again and moving to Florida in 2003 where she continues to write new chapters of her life with her husband Randy.

Amber Grice, LCSW, LSCSW, Solace House Team Lead

Amber Grice, LCSW, LSCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s degree from the University of Kansas, with an emphasis in children, youth, and families. Amber has over 20 years of experience working with children and adults in various settings in the greater Kansas City area. She began her career working as a domestic violence advocate; leading parenting and empowerment groups and providing individual counseling support to mothers and children living in transitional housing. She continued her work in advocacy and crisis intervention as a therapist with the Blue Springs Police Department, providing counseling services to crime victims and juvenile offenders. Amber went on to work as a Clinical Social Worker in schools for several years before pursuing her desire to work in hospice care and grief support, finding a home with Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care in 2021.
