Camp Erin gives grieving children a place to find support

Camp Erin is the largest national bereavement program for youth grieving the death of a significant person in their lives. Children and teens ages 6-17 attend a transformational weekend camp that combines traditional, fun camp activities with grief education and emotional support. Here in Kansas City, it’s made possible by Kansas City Hospice, Solace House and the Moyer Foundation.

Campers and Volunteers began arriving at Camp Erin 2018 on June 8. They had a weekend ahead of them of outdoor fun, learning experiences and the camaraderie of kids just like them who have lost a loved one.

Camp Erin 2018 Volunteers included trained professionals in grief support, RNs for boo-boos, people who have been in the same situation and people from all walks of life who were ready to train for this unique weekend.

You’ll find people of every age at Camp Erin, from young campers, through teens, to our wonderful community volunteers, many who return year after year.

Camp Erin isn’t always serious. There’s plenty of time to goof around and just be kids! Laughter really is a great medicine and bonding with others their own age will provide support far into the future.

Teens at Camp Erin 2018 find support from each other and from the volunteers who guide them through the weekend. Fun times outdoors are balanced with learning about ways to cope with grief and loss.
