An enduring legacy of care and generosity

volunteerAn enduring legacy of care and generosity. Dr. Shirley Salmon’s legacy of compassion lives on at Kansas City Hospice House™.

Patients and staff often experienced Dr. Shirley Salmon’s sweet smile and gentle spirit as she walked the halls of Kansas City Hospice House™. Though it has been many years, we remember Shirley as one of our most devoted volunteers.

Kansas City HospiceShirley made a point to connect with each patient and their visiting family members to offer a “mini concert” of guitar music and song from volunteer musician Gary Kirkland.

“Shirley was a humble person who had a way of putting people at ease, even during stressful times.” – Gary Kirkland

For several years this dynamic duo worked together to bring joy, peace, and comfort to many families.

Recently, we were grateful to learn that Shirley never forgot the many staff, volunteers, patients, and families she worked beside in her volunteer role at Kansas City Hospice. She sought to continue her legacy of giving by remembering Kansas City Hospice in her estate. The generosity Shirley displayed during her lifetime as a dedicated volunteer, and after her death with her enduring estate gift, lives on through the comfort and peace it will provide to families for years to come.

Mary Zahner Bauer, Director of Donor Relations, is grateful for the opportunity to meet supporters like Shirley. “Shirley will continue to make a difference in the lives of many families for years to come. What an incredible legacy of compassion she has left for our community.”
